What is Athletes Foot?
Athletes foot known as Tinea pedis is a condition resulting from dermatophytes (fungal organisms) infecting the skin of the feet. This condition affects approximately 10% of the population. Patients often contract the infection by directly contacting the organism while walking barefoot.

Most commonly:
Locker rooms
Communal Showers
Swimming complexes
Prolonged wear of occlusive shoes
Excessive sweating (hyperhidrosis)
Poor hygiene
Not drying feet properly

Symptoms may begin as a mild ache or stiffness in the back of the leg or above the heel after activity. Overtime this pain may increase and occur during/after running, jumping, stair climbing or sprinting.

Improve hygiene, keeping the feet clean, dry, and well-maintained.
Sweat wicking socks
Breathable shoes made of natural materials
Avoid tight fitting shoes
Topical medications
Oral medication
